Track:Advancements in Evidence-Based Design Research
Healthcare professionals working in emergency departments (EDs) experience high stress levels and one of the highest rates of burnout among all occupations. This study aimed to determine how EDs may be designed to facilitate mindfulness and help healthcare professionals manage job-related stress. Based on their previous research findings regarding where and how staff cope with stress in EDs, these presenters developed an animated three-dimensional model of a proposed design to facilitate mindfulness. This was presented in two focus group sessions with ED healthcare professionals to ascertain advantages, disadvantages, and proposed modifications applicable to a broader range of ED design projects.
