Session Description

A post-occupancy evaluation of more than 2,000 Cleveland Clinic inpatient facility patients was a first step toward an understanding of design’s impact across the inpatient facility portfolio. This presentation will report on results from a further study of 664 inpatients who experienced overnight stays in a private patient room within the last three years. A web-based survey including ratings and open-ended questions explored patients’ loyalty to Cleveland Clinic and experiences during and memories of their inpatient stay. The business case for design was demonstrated by the substantive impact design had on patient loyalty. Additional analyses revealed effective design and operational strategies and opportunities for additional phases of research involving computational design.
