Track:Behavioral Health Practices
For Military Health System Behavioral Health (BH) Care facilities, it is essential to design a safe, functional, therapeutic, and aesthetically pleasing, noninstitutional environment that “normalizes life” for patients, staff, and visitors throughout the world. Participants will be familiarized with the Military Health System (MHS) approach to designing a BH environment with emphasis on evidence-based design patient safety interventions for reducing self-harm and harm to other patients and supporting staff safety. Case studies from a variety of locations will provide examples and lessons learned as the MHS continues to improve its BH facility program through design layout; mitigation of episode triggers; and outfitting of individual provider offices, group rooms, and telehealth space.
