Facility organization frames the experience for patients, families, and staff and how a department, building, or campus is organized sets the foundation for programming, workflows, and operations. This presentation will provide insights from top pediatric hospital facility leaders on how they explored, designed, and operationalized their facilities’ vertical towers to create ideal experiences. Topics discussed will include key differences in vertical versus horizontal organizational structures and the pros and cons of keeping programmatic centers of excellence consolidated versus split between inpatient and outpatient. They’ll discuss how technology is changing design for adjacencies and workflow and identify key strategies for implementing and operationalizing different facility organizational structures.
