In July 2018, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford opened its new treatment center that included interventional radiology rooms, hybrid ORs, and cath lab suites. Designed in 2007, the collaborative teams proactively planned for evolving technology, but gaps remained during the transition and activation phases. This case study will focus on lessons learned about the control room set-up, supply chain technology, OR integration systems, hybrid rooms, equipment needs, room set-up, staff workflow, and issues management. The team will also discuss critical design elements and best practices for architects and construction teams to consider when designing interventional spaces as well as pitfalls to avoid.
