Session Description

The urgency to quickly replace a current facility led MetroHealth and HGA to design a “process-neutral” facility utilizing Lean, industry best practices, and evidence-based design principles. To accelerate the schematic design, design documents, and construction document and budgeting phases of the project, staff engagement was intentionally limited during the initial phases of the project. This new approach accomplished the objective of enabling construction of the new hospital to begin much sooner while providing the health system with a building that will serve the community’s needs for decades. This session will compare and contrast traditional design-based staff engagement models to this new approach.
