Track:Advancements in Evidence-Based Design Research
A four-year federally funded patient safety learning lab (PSLL) titled Realizing Improved Patient Care through Human-Centered Design in the OR (RIPCHD.OR) has resulted in in-depth research on operating rooms as well as the development of an OR prototype and high-fidelity OR mock-up. The concepts developed in this project were also implemented in a new ambulatory surgery center. This session presents findings from the post-occupancy evaluation (POE) of the operating room prototype using facility walk throughs, surgery observations, and interviews and surveys with surgical team members and administrators. Come hear how the RIPCHD.OR met its goals for improving patient safety and experience and areas where OR layout still needs further examination.
