The rare decision to move central sterile supply (CSS) operations off campus presents many challenges, but when done correctly, can optimize clinical efficiency and save money for a healthcare system. The design team and owner who collaborated on such a facility for the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics (UIHC) will present a case study on their project, one of only a handful of off-campus CSS facilities in the nation. The project engineer, architect, healthcare process consultant, and owner will share their perspectives on the operational challenges, design solutions, and process of designing and constructing a successful, consolidated off-campus CSS.
