After increasing requests for more exam room space, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia grew worried that a new ambulatory clinic building would soon be needed. However, analysis of volume and space utilization by each subspecialty yielded a very different conclusion. Not only was there adequate capacity for current volume but, with proper management, little additional clinic space would be needed in the near future. Additional studies across the clinical enterprise revealed where current operations were constrained and where capacity existed for volume growth. In this session, attendees will gain insight into the discovery process that yield an enterprise-wide model to review existing performance and understand the impact of future volumes, enabling leadership to better direct capital investment or operational improvement efforts.
