Session Description

The healthcare industry has devoted an untold amount of resources to be Lean. Many advancements have been achieved; however, the outcome has not always been commensurate with the effort and expense. When does being too Lean become unhealthy? This roundtable discussion will explore the journey of Lean through a “Lean lens,” highlighting what works well, what creates waste, what is of value, and what we should drop by the wayside. Illustrated by the case study of a new patient tower at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Ore., discussion will consider that not all Lean diets are appropriate for all healthcare departments.
