Barbara Dellinger is Director of Design and Research at Adventist Healthcare (AHC), in a multi-hospital system, located in Rockville, MD. In this position, she oversees interior design with regard to space planning, finishes, furniture, art, wayfinding and signage and lighting, using evidence-based design research and best practices as the guiding tool. Current projects include the upgrade of AHC’s Behavioral Health Building in preparation for the Joint Commission, renovation of the Imaging and MRI suite and completion of Guidelines and Standards for AHC as a system. Prior to joining AHC, she spent 10 years at HDR Architects in Alexandria, VA as Director in Healthcare Interior Design, East Coast. She led the implementation of the DOD’s World Class/Evidence-based Design check list on several large military projects, including the Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital in Northern VA and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. She sits on the Center for Health Design’s EDAC Advisory Board, and the Research Coalition and has been active with the Center since its inception.
