Yet many decisions continue to rely on assumptions about how spaces are used rather than objective data. This session presents findings from a pilot study conducted by Boulder Associates using digital tracking technology to measure real-world space utilization in an active ambulatory surgery center. Over a three-month period, patient and staff movement data revealed where design intent aligned or conflicted with operational reality, directly impacting safety, efficiency, and experience. Attendees will gain evidence-based insights into how the built environment influences clinical workflows, with practical strategies for optimizing existing ASCs and informing future planning decisions. Drew Garst, Principal at Boulder Associates, and Dawn Pfeiffer, CEO of Triangles Healthcare Consulting, will share key findings from a design and owner perspective.
