Transforming non-healthcare spaces into high-performing medical environments presents unique design challenges. This presentation details the conversion of a 25,000 SF warehouse into a modern Pharmacy Distribution Center for Allegheny Health Network (AHN). The session showcases practical strategies for renovating and reusing existing facilities to meet healthcare needs by focusing on the creation of a central fill pharmacy to streamline medication distribution across AHN’s network. Attendees will discover how advanced automation systems were planned to ensure reliable compressed air, power, and data connections with built-in redundancy. The project’s strategic phased construction approach ensured that critical equipment delivery and accelerated HVAC procurement met strict climate control and regulatory requirements. Our presenters will share lessons learned from delivering comprehensive MEP/FP design services, including emergency power, security, and data systems, while meeting an aggressive project schedule.
