The acoustic environment is critical to patient health, safety, and welfare as a quiet environment is paramount to patient rest and recovery. Secondary benefits include increased HCAHPS scores and confidentiality, and reduced stress for caregivers. Many studies focus on sound isolation and sound masking in and around the patient rooms; however, the implications of other design considerations and nurses’ station design can also impact the acoustical environment. Come learn about the acoustic impacts and design considerations (beyond the inpatient room) that are based on studies and actual acoustical measurements collected from major hospital systems.
