Around 80 people receive organ transplants each day, and in a given year more than 1 million tissue transplants are performed. With increased awareness and willingness of people to donate, standalone transplant facilities are being designed and built in order to fulfill the growing need and refine the transplant process. As a new typology, standalone transplant facilities present unique obstacles due to considerations of building access, security, workflow process, and discretion. Come hear how one facility, without known parameters to follow, has taken a sensitive process and designed a space that is efficient for workflow, while honoring the human experience involved.
