Healthcare projects recognized by the AAH Design Awards often demonstrate excellence beyond clinical function, revealing how healthcare environments can serve as vital community infrastructure. This panel invites members of the AAH design awards community, designers, and healthcare practitioners to reflect on how community impact is identified, evaluated, and embedded within award‑recognized healthcare design.

Drawing from awarded and award‑considered projects, panelists will explore how healthcare facilities function as neighborhood anchors—supporting access, trust, and civic presence through design decisions that extend beyond the exam room. The discussion will focus on the process behind recognized work, including early planning strategies, trade-offs, and constraints that influence a project’s community role.

Panelists will also examine how contributions from emerging professionals and interdisciplinary teams shape community-centered outcomes long before awards submissions are developed. Attendees will gain insight into how AAH juries assess community value and how healthcare teams can more clearly articulate community impact as a measure of design excellence.
